My name is Liz Reynolds and I teach, create, and perform dance. I've been doing it for over 15 years and it still challenges, captivates and inspires me. As an emerging choreographer, I am committed to revealing myself as a woman, an artist and a keen observer of the world around me. I make dances because I am constantly searching for who I mesh with and how I can challenge my community, both locally and globally. I want to understand and be understood. I want to develop passion for that which is foreign to me. In my work I seek to trigger memory, vulnerability and emotion through movement and images that are both personal and familiar.
I look to dance to teach me about the potential power of bodies in motion, to carry me into a space where meaning unfolds in ways I can't immediately describe in words. I want to discover something that couldn't have existed before, to find new options for perception and action. I want to perceive something familiar in a new way.
Using both gestural and abstract original movement derived from improvisational structures, I create scenes that are gripping, kinetic, specific and timeless. I bear a style that is both feminine and athletically rigorous. I am currently exploring the intricate psychology of relationships and how people negotiate for what they need. I am interested in how people find, give and interpret love. My goal is that the dance experience teeters on the fine line between performer and viewer...... and that it speaks to us both.
